The Power of Cyclic Living: How Aligning with Nature’s Rhythms Can Transform Your Life

The definition of cyclic living

I have been sitting on this piece for a while now (a year to be truthful) and I thought with the shift in season coming up with the Autumn Equinox, someone might read this and find it helpful if they begin to not find themselves so productive and wondering if something is wrong with them.

But in actuality, as a female our hormones are over a 28 day period whilst men have a 24 hour hormonal shift - so in today’s fast-paced world, we’re often expected to maintain a constant level of productivity and energy, which can leave us feeling exhausted, disconnected, and stressed because we are not built that way.

What if the key to a more balanced, fulfilling life lies not in doing more but in living more cyclically, tuning into the natural rhythms that shape everything from the seasons to our own bodies?

Cyclic living is about aligning your lifestyle, habits, and mindset with the cycles of nature. Whether it’s the daily rise and fall of the sun, the moon’s monthly phases, or the changing seasons, living cyclically allows us to flow in harmony with these patterns rather than resist them.

I was gently reminded of this way of living just a few weeks ago and over the past few years with building a business and trying to get myself out there, build clients, be productive, still work to fund my growing business I have found myself switching off from this way of living and have noticed a significant change in my energy levels, sleep and hormones.

With the Virgo New Moon coming up on Friday 11th of September, this is the perfect time to start planting your seeds of intention and accountability for yourself and health. Taking back control and learning to honour yourself and not spread yourself to thin, an invitation if you will, to learn to support yourself and return back to the connection with yourself.

If you read on, we’ll explore the benefits of cyclic living and how embracing this approach can lead to greater well-being, balance, and self-awareness.

1. Increased Energy & Productivity

One of the core principles of cyclic living is recognising the natural ebb and flow of our energy. Just as the moon waxes and wanes, so do our energy levels. Some days we feel energised and ready to take on the world, while others call for rest and reflection.

By honouring these fluctuations, you can stop pushing yourself to be constantly "on" and start working in harmony with your body’s needs. This can actually enhance productivity, as you focus your energy during times of peak performance and allow yourself to recharge when needed.

2. Reduced Stress & Burnout

Living in constant overdrive can lead to stress, burnout, and a feeling of being overwhelmed. Cyclic living promotes a more balanced approach to life, where rest, relaxation, and self-care are built into the flow of your daily and seasonal routines.

When you sync your life with natural rhythms, you’ll naturally adopt a slower, more mindful pace. This reduces the pressure to always be productive and gives you permission to rest without guilt, leading to improved mental health and lower stress levels.

3. Better Physical Health

The cycles of nature have always influenced human biology, our sleep patterns, hormonal fluctuations, and energy levels are all tied to these rhythms. By adopting a more cyclic lifestyle, you’ll improve your overall health in a number of ways:

  • Improved Sleep: Aligning with the day-night cycle (circadian rhythm) can enhance your sleep quality by reinforcing natural sleep-wake cycles.

  • Hormonal Balance: Especially for women, living in tune with monthly cycles can promote hormonal balance, making it easier to manage symptoms related to menstrual health.

  • Seasonal Nourishment: Eating seasonally, as part of cyclic living, means consuming foods when they’re at their nutritional peak, which can support immune function and vitality.

4. Heightened Self-Awareness & Intuition

Cyclic living encourages mindfulness and a deeper connection to yourself and the world around you. By tuning into natural rhythms, you’ll become more aware of your own cycles, whether they’re physical, emotional, or creative. This heightened self-awareness can lead to improved emotional well-being, as you learn to listen to your body’s needs and honor your feelings without judgment.

Many people also report a stronger sense of intuition when living cyclically, as they become more in tune with the subtle cues from their bodies and the environment.

5. Stronger Connection to Nature

Modern life often pulls us away from the natural world, but cyclic living helps to restore that connection. When you begin to pay attention to the changing seasons, moon phases, and daily cycles of light and dark, you cultivate a deeper sense of belonging within the larger web of life. This nature connection can reduce feelings of isolation, improve your mood, and even foster a greater sense of purpose and meaning.

6. More Ease and Flow in Life

Life feels smoother when you’re not fighting against its natural rhythms. By embracing cyclic living, you allow life to flow with less resistance. You’ll start to feel a sense of ease as you work with your natural energy patterns instead of against them. Over time, this can create a lifestyle that’s more sustainable, fulfilling, and aligned with your true self.

How to Start Living Cyclically…

If you’re interested in exploring cyclic living, here are a few ways to begin:

  1. Pay attention to the seasons: Adjust your activities, diet, and self-care to align with the changing seasons. For example, in winter, focus more on rest and introspection, while in spring, embrace renewal and growth.

  2. Track your energy levels: Start noting your daily and weekly energy patterns. Are there times when you feel more productive or creative? When do you feel the need to rest? Use this information to plan your work and self-care, you can also sync this to the moon - see below

  3. Sync with the moon: The moon’s phases can influence your mood, energy, and focus. Many people use the New moon for setting intentions and the Full moon for releasing what no longer serves them. However, sit with feels right for you and trust yourself of what is right for you. I use the app FLOW my cycle and also the free version of STARDUST to track the cycle of the moon so I can see how synced with the moon and begin to notice a pattern.

  4. Listen to your body: At the end of the day, cyclic living is about tuning into your own body’s needs and rhythms. Practice self-awareness and compassion to give yourself permission to rest when necessary and be active when you feel called - there is nothing to be ashamed about. Our hormones are in 28 day cycles and not 24 hours like men, we are biologically different, it’s our super power and we are here to learn to use it to empower ourselves.

Conclusion

To learn and connect with ourselves more deeply is empowerment, to know and understand how we can optimise our work and bodies whilset treating rest (when you can) with respect for yourself and body. Cyclic living offers a refreshing perspective to the constant hustle of modern life and girlbossing, by syncing with the natural rhythms of the earth, your body, and your environment, you can create a more balanced, peaceful, and fulfilling existence.

With the upcoming Virgo New Moon start today by taking a moment to connect with the cycles around you, and feel the difference it makes. Take this a sign to take your power back and align your life more truly for what works for you, so you can show up as the best version of yourself!

Love and gratitude,

Assunta xx
