Pisces is the Latin word for “fish”, and in Greek mythology, their constellation represents the koi fish that saved Aphrodite and her son Eros from the sea monster Typhon. As a reward, the two fish were placed in the heavens shining for all of eternity.

Pisces is a water sign, and the last constellation of the zodiac symbolised by a pair of fish swimming in opposite directions, representing the constant division of their fascination with the spiritual realm and earth-bound realm. Generally speaking as the last of the signs, Pisces has taken in every lesson like a mixture of good and bad, the hopes and fears learned by all of the other signs which have led them to be one of the most highly emotional and intuitive of the zodiac signs.

Being highly intuitive, creative, and intelligent, Pisces is known for its ability to sense things that others cannot, which gives them a great capacity for empathy and perhaps things they don't even understand. Their deep intuition and sympathetic nature are what make them such great listeners and advisers. They are also known for being non-judgmental whilst feeling things more deeply than others. When you share your feelings and problems with a Pisces friend or relative, you can expect them to listen without judgment but with compassion.

Furthermore, Pieces are very loyal souls, especially to their friends and family. While they seem sociable, they prefer being around small groups of people rather than larger groups. They are often willing to lend an ear to anyone and even give advice, but when it comes to sharing their own feelings and emotions, they are often guarded and closed off. Only willing to share with a select few, as they tend to believe that other people won’t understand their feelings.

Pisces are generally quiet people, they prefer to listen and observe rather than talk when they are in social situations. While they enjoy being around family and close friends, Pisces generally like spending their time alone either thinking or letting their imagination run wild. They also enjoy engaging in outdoor activities, especially water-related activities.

Being deeply emotional is both a strength and a weakness for Pisces. On one hand, they have the capacity to feel things deeply, and being in touch with their intuition gives them a strong moral compass, but it can also be their biggest detriment, especially when they succumb to challenging emotions. When they feel overwhelmed by emotions, Pisces can fall into depression and lose their ability to see the good in the world. They have a tendency to overthink and get too wrapped up in problems which can cause them to lose their sense of judgment and ability to solve problems.

As idealists, they tend to only see the good in the world when they feel optimistic, but can also view the world as cruel and hard when they are exposed to too much negativity. When they feel too much negativity, they often turn to escapism as a coping mechanism.

Amethyst is the traditional birthstone for those born in February which makes sense as the stone represents the Third Eye Chakra, and Amethyst is powerful in supporting spirituality and intuition. It encourages self-reflection and helps Pisces determine the root cause of their issues, thereby releasing pain and stress.
